We are the only school in North Burnaby recognized by Sport BC, Taekwondo Canada and the BC Taekwondo Federation. The rank you earn at our school is recognized worldwide within the World Taekwondo Federation (currently 187 member nations).

Meet Our Instructors

Master Instructor Jason Ruiter

Master Ruiter is a certified 6th dan instructor by Taekwondo Canada. Although he was an accomplished competitor both regionally and nationally, his main focus now is making sure he passes on the best instruction to students of Metro Taekwondo Studio. He has over 30 years of martial arts and teaching experience with both Taekwondo and Muay Thai kickboxing.

Currently Master Ruiter is the acting Tournament Director with the BC Taekwondo Federation, helping the federation on a local level.

Other than Taekwondo practice six days a week, Master Ruiter is a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts! As a lifetime martial artist, it is very important to keep learning in order to keep a beginner's mind and also to understand the challenges of both a student and instructor.

Instructor Phillip Ta

For the past seven years, Phillip has been dedicating his time teaching kids and adults Taekwondo at our Do Jang. Phillip is 4th dan and has 16 years of Taekwondo experience. Phillip still competes both locally and nationally. Besides Taekwondo, Phillip has extensive background in Brazilian Jiujitsu and is an active competitor on the BJJ scene.

Blackbelt Instructors and helpers

At Metro Taekwondo we encourage blackbelt participation when it comes to teaching others and helping out. While we don’t rely on it, blackbelt participation and teaching is an excellent opportunity to obtain necessary inter-personal skills, leadership skills, and is a great way to hone your own technique while helping someone else.
